Executive Chef Jason Ng's new menu builds on the chic, myriad of Asian cuisine our restaurant is renowned for with a whole new range of dishes. The new menu is a la carte style, but a refreshed range of small plates are still, very much, on the table and an ideal way for groups to sample a wide range of dishes in the vibrant atmosphere of our restaurant.
Jason Ng’s love for cooking began early, growing up in his family’s Chinese restaurant in rural Taranaki. From folding wontons to clearing tables, he learned the value of hard work and the art of doing simple things well.
“Classic Chinese dishes will always hold a special place for me,” Jason shares. “You’ll often find small touches of that nostalgia in my menus.”
After years working both front of house and behind the bar in Wellington, Jason took on a chef’s apprenticeship in a luxury hotel—an experience that honed his creativity, precision, and appreciation for detail. His career later took him to China, Shanghai, and Australia before returning home to join Lola Rouge as Sous Chef in 2023.
Now Executive Chef, Jason brings a fresh perspective to the restaurant, blending flavours inspired by his travels across Asia with the best of New Zealand’s local produce. Drawing from his background in luxury hospitality, he’s shaped Lola Rouge’s menu into a bold yet relaxed dining experience that celebrates flavour, balance, and the joy of sharing good food.
